ESRI Shape (*.shp)

This export filter can be used to export objects and grid data from CadnaA files for use in ESRI ArcView or ESRI ArcInfo. As mentioned already at import operations (see ESRI Shape) shape-files are subject or object-orientated. Thus, any object has to be exported separately.

Object types

The following objects can be exported to ESRI Shape:

  • Point, Line, Area Source, Vertical Area Source,
  • Road
  • Crossing (traffic light)
  • Parking Lot
  • Railway
  • Tennis, point of serve
  • BPL source
  • Building, Cylinder, Barrier, Bridge
  • Built-up Area, Foliage
  • Ground Absorption
  • Height Point, Contour Line, Line-of-Fault
  • Triangulation: exports the contour lines generated by triangulation (see DTM Digital Terrain Model Tab). With option „3D“ activated triangles, with the option deactivated polygon edges are exported.
  • Receiver
  • Building Evaluation
  • Facade Point: exports the facade points generated by the building evaluation symbol (see Building Noise Map)
  • Calculation Area, Area of Designated Use
  • Air Route
  • Auxiliary Polygon/closed Auxiliary Polygon: With object type „Auxiliary Polygon“ selected open polygons are exported. In contrast, with the option „Auxiliary Polygon, closed“ selected closed polygons are exported.

The following objects cannot be exported to ESRI Shape because of their special properties:

  • 3D-Reflector
  • Embankment
  • all objects specific to aircraft noise (except for air routes, see above)
  • Vertical Grid
  • Bitmap, and
  • all objects used for display (Text Box, Level Box, Station, Section and Symbol).

ArcView Shape

In order to export objects proceed as follows:

  • Select from menu File|Export the file type "ESRI Shape (shp *.)".
  • Enter a name for the exported file.
  • Select via the „Options“ button the type of object to be exported.
  • After clicking OK on the Save As dialog, the data is exported.

Options for ESRI Shape Export

  • list box „Object Type“: select object type to be exported
  • 3D: Activate this option to export height data in addition.
  • Export inactive Objects too: After activating this option also inactive objects will be exported (see the manual „Introduction to CadnaA“, see Dialog Options Name, ID, INFO, ObjectTree, Master, Activation States).

Note

By default, CadnaA just exports the active objects.

  • Facade Points as Polygons: Facade points can be exported using the ESRI Shape format as well. For this purpose, select via the „Options“ button the object type „Facade Point“.
    • Export as points: With the options „Facade Points as Polygons“ and „3D“ deactivated, the facade points are exported as 2D points (i.e. without any height information). In this case, all points have a height of 0 m. With the option „3D“ activated object heights are exported as well. The exported facade points can be imported as points objects (e.g as receivers) into CadnaA, ArcView or any other GIS software.
    • Export as 3D polygons: With the options „Facade Points as Polygons“ and „3D“ activated, 3D polygons are generated upon export which can be imported as auxiliary polygons into CadnaA, ArcView or any other GIS software. The size of each polygon depends on the settings on dialog Building Noise Map (regarding length & distance, see Building Noise Map) and on the dialog Building Evaluation (regarding height, see Building Evaluation).

Exported 3D facade polygons with facade point-specific attributes

In both cases, the following attributes are written to the Memo-Window of each point or polygon:

  • NAME: designation/name of facade point
  • L1..L4: facade level in dB(A) for performance parameters 1..4
  • EINW_L: number of inhabitants at the facade point (assuming a constant number of inhabitants per facade length)
  • EINW_N: number of inhabitants at the facade point [assuming a number of inhabitants at the facade point = (inhabitants building)/(number of facade points of the building)]

Button „Table“

Click this button to display the format of the export table and its attributes. The export table format can be edited if necessary.

Note

The object table for the objects „Road“ and „Railway“ cannot be edited here since the table contents depend on the selected standard or guideline. In this case, edit the object table via the Tables menu directly (see Editing Object Tables).

Default-Table format for object „Façade Points“

By default („Default Table“) CadnaA exports all attributes currently displayed in the respective object table (Chapter 10 - Tables). Via the option „User-defined Table“ the format of the corresponding table for export can be edited (see Editing Object Tables).

Export Iso-dB-Lines

With this option activated the interpolated grid lines are exported as lines or as a closed polygons, depending on the selection on Grid|Appearance dialog (see Grid Appearance). Here, the level interval as defined by the addressed color palette or - in case selected - the values of the „Level Range“ are used.
