Fill Tab

The following options are available:

Option Feature/s Comment/Example
Type
  • (no): No filling is used.
  • Simple: The color and the line‘s thickness can be specified (by a value or based on an expression using a numerical attribute).
  • Solid: applies no hatching, but always a solid color
  • Gradient: uses the (foreground) color and the background color to represent the object‘s area by a color gradient between two colors.
  • Pattern: A pattern is used to fill in the object‘s area. The pattern is generated using the (foreground) color and the color and the pattern type of the background.
  • For layer type „Simple“ just the fill type „Simple“ is available for line objects.
Color selects the (foreground) color via dialog Color (see Dialog Color)
Transparency (%) just for type „Cartographic“
Background selects the background color via dialog Color (see Dialog Color)
transparent (Background) When this option is enabled, the selected background color is ignored and displayed as being transparent. This option is available with fill type „Pattern“ only. With multiple layers, this option can be used to display lower layers.
Type selects the hatching, the gradient type, or the pattern type

    Examples

The following examples show some options for line and area objects (here: line and area sources LS/AS). The layer type „Fill“ is useful with area-like objects only. At line-like objects the layer type „Line“ is used.

    Example

    Appearance / Display Comments
    default appearance:
layer type „Simple“ with line type (at LS and AS)) and fill (just relevant to AS)
at LS: layer type „Line“ instead of „Simple“: using a cartographic line type, width 3 mm, hatch-dashed with triangular dash caps
at AS: layer type „Fill“ instead of „Simple“: gradient-fill from red to green color, Type No. 5
at LS: cartographic line type, to the left of the Simple-line („left“ with respect to input direction)
at AS: layer type „Gradient“ red/green and layer type „Simple“ red
