Web-Bitmaps

By the export format „Web-Bitmaps“, available on dialog File|Export, a CadnaA project file can be exported to a number of bitmaps serving to be used on an web-page. The bitmaps can be saved with different scales and with a definable resolution.

Enter a file name for the bitmaps to be exported. After click the „Save“ button, CadnaA generates and saves the bitmaps automatically, applying the specified export options.

Bitmaps saved with different scales.

First, draw a section (see Section) over the area in your project file which you want to save as Web-Bitmap and enter a name for this section.

File Name

After selecting the export command, enter a file name serving as a base name for the bitmaps to be saved (in the example: "Webtest_demo1.cna") and the specify the export options by clicking the „Options“ button. CadnaA then saves the necessary number of bitmaps, dependent on the chosen options, automatically with the equivalent extensions in an alphabetical order.

For the following example three files with different scales have been saved.

  • "Webtest_demo1_a.bmp" is the file with the largest scale (whereas "Webtest_demo1 "was the original file name and a is the extension),
  • "Webtest_demo1_b.bmp" is the file name for the scale with the magnification step 2 and
  • "Webtest_demo1_c.bmp" is the file name for the magnification step 3 etc.

Export Options for Web-Bitmaps

Export Options

Section

Select a respective section by clicking on the section name in the list.

Largest Scale

Enter the largest scale which should be displayed. You may test the exported results by entering a useful scale.

Magnification Steps

The number of magnification steps determines the number of files to be exported. For example, with three magnification steps specified, two additional representations are generated, each magnified by the factor 2 starting from the value entered for „Largest Scale“ (e.g. starting from scale 1:5000, the additional scales 1:2500 and 1:1250 are generated).

Resolution

Enter the desired resolution in dpi. The larger the resolution, the more time is required when loading the bitmaps (i.e. 100 dpi may be sufficient in most cases). When no resolution has been specified, the screen resolution is used when generating the bitmaps.

Generate Tiles

With large project file the file should be tiled. In that case, activating this option causes CadnaA to subdivide the project file automatically into section of the defined size (Width/Height of Tiles) and generates for each section or tiles the corresponding number of bitmaps with the specified magnification steps.

Option "Suppress "empty" tiles"

With this option activated, sections not containing any objects are not generated.

Note

The tools required for loading and displaying those web-bitmaps are not offered by CadnaA, but any skilled web-designer will be able to process the files further.
