General Tab

The following options are available:

Option Feature/s Comment/Example
Name, Short Name Optional labeling of a layer by specifying a name or short name.
Display Object
  • On Screen: shows the layer on the screen
  • On Paper: shows the layer on the printout
  • Expression (condition): An expression may be entered using the object-specific attributes (see Table Object Attributes in the manual „Attributes, Variables and Keywords“).
  • The expression BEZ>0 will display just objects having a name larger than zero (assuming a numeric value).
Range of Scale from/to The range of scale (or just a lower or an upper limit) defines at which range of scale the object will be displayed. A scale range with a sole upper limit of 1200 means that the object is no longer displayed staring at a scale of 1:1201.
Legacy Display This option is primarily relevant for object types whose former representation in CadnaA consisted of several lines or graphical objects (e.g. road, building evaluation, flight route/corridors/tracks, receiver, embankment). see below
Option „Do NOT consider for Symbol-Rectangle“ Option available for layer types „Symbol“ and „Simple“ only!
When this option is activated, the graphic object defined by this layer type is not used to generate the object‘s hot spot frame. With this option activated, however, it does.
By default this option is disabled.
The option enables to specify which layers of an object determine the symbol‘s hot spot frame or do not.
NOTE: Special case with Building Evaluation Symbol!
Option „Paint Line Segments individually“ Option available for layer types „Line“ and „Line of Symbols“ only!
When activated, the segments of a polygon are drawn separately.
By default this option is disabled.
For example, a polygon having different heights at first and last point can be colored along its length using different colors.
Option „Layer-Group“ Option available for layer types „Grid: Line“ and „Grid: Area“ only!
With this option active, the currently selected layer type will be painted first including all precedent layers in the list „Type of Layer“ for all grid sub-areas. Afterwards, all remaining layers are painted, unless a further layer group exists.
Example 1: 3 layers with partial areas A, B (option „Layer-Group“ OFF for all layers)
    Painting Sequence: A1,2,3 | B1,2,3
Example 2: 3 layers with partial areas A, B (option „Layer-Group“ ON for layer 1)
    Painting Sequence: A1 | B1 | A2,3 | B 2,3
Example 3: 3 layers with partial areas A, B (option „Layer-Group“ ON for layer 2)
    Painting Sequence: A1,2 | B1,2 | A3 | B3
Example 4: 5 layers with partial areas A, B (option „Layer-Group“ OFF for all layers)
    Painting Sequence: A1,2,3,4,5 | B1,2,3,4,5
    Example 5: 5 layers with partial areas A, B (option „Layer-Group“ ON for layers 2 and 4)
    Painting Sequence: A1,2 | B1,2 | A3,4 | B3,4 | A5 | B5
This option offers to control the painting sequence of the types of layers for the object types „Grid: Line“ and „Grid: Area“. For example, a correct representation is possible with mutually overlapping layers (e.g. text on top of grid areas).

Additional information on the Legacy Display

For example, the legacy display of the object „Road“ consists of two layers of type „Simple“. The first layer represents the „Road Body + Center Mark“, the second the „Sound Sources“. For the type „Road Body + Center Mark“ a solid line is selected (on the tab „Line“), and for the type „Sound Sources“ a dotted line (both with a width of 0 mm).
