Line of Symbols Tab
With the layer type „Line of Symbols“ the symbol selected and edited on the „Symbol“ tab is placed along the line‘s geometry or along the limiting line of area-like objects. The following options are available:
| Option | Feature/s | Comment/Example |
| Pattern with fixed Distance | The symbol is placed at fixed spacings along the line: |
|
| Polygon Points | option „All“ excludes „First“ and „Last“ | |
| Edge Centers | option „All“ excludes „First“ and „Last“ | |
| Center of Gravity | The symbol is placed in the center of gravity of the object‘s area. | With line-like objects the first and last polygon point are supposed to be joined internally. |
| Align Symbols to Line | When enabled, the symbols will be aligned according to the line‘s direction. | |
| Displacement | Displacement (in m or mm) with respect to the line‘s geometry | Positive values result in a shift to the left, negative values a shift to the right, when looking from the start to the end point of the polygon. |
There may be one or more of the above-mentioned options activated.
Examples
Below are some display options offered by the layer type „Line of Symbols“ for line- and area-like objects (here: line and area sources).
Example
Path: Examples\Graphic\Object Appearance\Line of Symbols tab
| Appearance / Display | Comments |
![]() |
at line sources (LS): additional 2nd layer with a cross symbol at all polygon points at area sources (AS):additional 2nd layer with a text symbol „P“ at all polygon points |
![]() |
as before, but for line and area sources: cross and text symbol aligned to line |
![]() |
for line and area sources: additional line of symbols addressing attribute BEZ (name): at LS: positioning of symbols at first & last point at AS: positioning of two symbols at a fixed spacing with a displacement of 3 m |
Note that on the last example, the text symbols are placed either „outside“ or „inside“, depending on the polygon‘s direction of input.
Text symbol for each polygon point
The following example requires that the option "Paint line Segments individually" is enabled on the tab "General" when using the layer type "Line of Symbols". Only in this case the attributes used for the line and area source below (e.g. PO_EDGE_P1HREL) are available:
Example
Path: Examples\Graphic\Object Appearance\Line of Symbols tab\Symbol for each polygon point.cna
![]() |
For point sources, the relative height PO_HRELMAX is displayed as a text symbol (as before). For values < 0, the text is displayed in red, otherwise in green. For line and area sources, the same visualization is used as for point sources, but here the height per polygon point is evaluated with the attributes PO_EDGE_P1HREL and PO_EDGE_P2HREL. |
