Protocol
The command Protocol on the Calculation menu enables to write a log file in ASCII format with all intermediate results of a calculation with the image source method at receiver points . This file can be imported in other applications such as MS-Word or MS-Excel, for example.

Dialog options
Write Protocol
Activate the check box "Write Protocol". Now, restart the calculation at the receivers to generate the log file. Reopen the dialog Protocol and click the button "Select". The default log file is named cadnar.log.
Button "Select"
To use a different file name, click the "Select" button, and enter a new filename. By default, the log file is written to the CadnaR installation directory. However, any other location can be specified as well. The protocol will be saved to a file using the specified filename. Alternatively, an existing file may be selected which will be overwritten upon calculation.
Button "Edit"
Clicking this button displays the protocol file for the most recent calculation at the receivers. In case the editor responds with an error message the log file is probably too large. In this case, use a different application (e.g. a spreadsheet software or a word processor).
Options "Overwrite File/Append to File"
With option "Overwrite File" the log file just contains the protocol data from the most recent calculation. With option "Append to File" the protocol data will be appended to the existing protocol data in the specified log file.
Protocol-Abbreviations
The protocol contains the following data:
- header information (CadnaR-version, file path, start of calculation)
- configuration settings
- for each receiver: name, ID and coordinates xyz
-
for each source contributing at the receiver:
- source name, ID and source type (Point, Line, Area Source, vert. Area Source, Box-type Source)
- LwA: A-weighted sound power of the source in dB(A)
- ray’s order, source coordinates xyz, 3D-distance (m)
- specification whether ray was diffracted/not diffracted
- detour: path length difference diffracted - non-diffracted ray (m)
- e: distance from first to last screening edge (m)
- for all octaves:
- A-weighted level sum level per source in dB(A)
- Lp_dir_tot: subtotal level from all sources (due to ray tracing)
- Lp_particle: level due to particle model from all sources (provided the fallback is activated, otherwise zero)
- Lp_tot: total level from all sources
| Abbreviation | Explanation |
| Lx | sound power level of component source |
| L|A | length/area (m or m²) |
| Dc | directivity correction |
| Adiv | attenuation due to geometrical divergence |
| Aatm | attenuation due to air absorption |
| Abar | barrier attenuation |
| RL | reflection loss |
| Lp_dir | level due to ray tracing |
